FAQ
How is Coaching different from Therapy?
Coaching is a collaborative, future focused process. We work together to support personal growth, skill development, and goal achievement. Coaching focuses on practical strategies, utilizing your individual strengths and building systems that support daily life, decision-making and follow through.
Therapy often focuses on healing, diagnosis, and processing past experiences, trauma, or mental health conditions. Therapists are trained to assess and treat mental health disorders and provide clinical care.
Can you have a Coach and a Therapist at the same time? Yes—many people do. Coaching and therapy can work beautifully side-by-side. Therapy can support emotional healing, while coaching helps you apply insights to daily life, routines, and goals.
Important Note
Coaching services do not replace therapy, counseling, or medical care. If at any point you need support beyond the scope of coaching, I will encourage you to seek appropriate professional care.
How old do I need to be to work with Lonna Rutherford Coaching?
Currently, I see anyone who is age 18 years or older. All clients are required to sign a coaching agreement to begin receiving services
Are your sessions in person?
At Lonna Rutherford Coaching we conduct our sessions online, using Zoom. This enables you to feel that you are in a safe, private environment for our sessions. Sessions will run for approximately 50 minutes, and it is recommended that we have 3 sessions a month to start, however the frequency of your sessions is up to you, and we can have this discussion during our time together.
What if I need to reschedule my session?
Your scheduled session time is reserved just for you. We ask that you notify us 24 hours in advance if there is a reason that you cannot make your session. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are subject to full session fee. This does include no shows.
We can appreciate that last minute emergencies do come up sometimes. In the case of a genuine emergency (such as sudden illness, family emergency, or urgent unforeseen circumstances), the 24-hour cancellation fee may be waived at our discretion. We would also love to be offered the same generosity should an emergency arise on our end. We will offer you the same courtesy of contacting you as soon as possible.
Do I need an official diagnosis to work with you?
No. Many people seek coaching because they suspect ADHD or relate strongly to ADHD traits. Coaching is helpful regardless of where you are in the diagnostic process.
What if I struggle with follow-through?
That’s exactly what coaching is for. I help you create systems that work with your brain, not against it. You’re not expected to be perfectly consistent.
How long are sessions and how often do we meet?
Most clients meet weekly or bi‑weekly for 50–60 minutes. We can adjust based on your needs and goals and can discuss what works for you during our discovery call.
What if I feel overwhelmed and I don’t know where to start?
You don’t need to have anything figured out. I help you sort through the chaos and find a starting point that feels manageable.
